Home for the Holidays-done!

Nothing like cutting things short! This quilt 'Home for the Holidays' was a free pattern from Anka's Treasures. Done in time for Christmas.

The quilt pattern is a panto with Trees.

I loved using up lots of older Christmas fabric on the backing. One of the fabrics is from 2001! Woohoo!

Hope everyone survived the Black Friday, well..those in the US. I did the online shopping and got pretty much all that I wanted. The stores are getting a little smarter. They don't have everything online..or the price is a little better in the stores. JoAnn Fabrics, for instance, had flannels on sale for $1.99 online OR $1.49/yard in the stores. Although there is a local JoAnns near me, it doesn't have a huge selection, so I would have had to drive 50 minutes to get to the big store. I figured that I would have saved $4.50 by going to the store for what I needed. So NOT worth it...getting up at 4:30 AM...driving 50 minutes there, battling people to get the fabric I wanted, standing in line to get it cut, standing in line to pay, driving 50 minutes home. The fuel alone would have cost me that! So I stayed home in my jammie's and shopped on line. Oh he games we play! LOL

Pansy pincushions

Nearly 40 years ago, when I was rather keen on crocheting,I crocheted a little garden of pansies, which have been sitting in a little jar with an assortment of other flowers I have made by various methods over the years.
Recently I saw this photo on the internet, but unfortunately I didnt copy the link - one day I will find it and link back to it.
I realised that is what I could do with my little pile of pansies - or at least some of them.
The first 5 are made.  I still have 8 pansies to use, so I may make some matching needlebooks with some of them.

Been A While!

It's been a while since I posted here! I have made this lovely table runner from Jenny of Elefantz designs. I am calling it a SIF because I already had the fabric, sitting in my Overload for over 12 months! Can I do that?!
I have been sewing for my Christmas swaps and gifts, so very little SIF action going on for me.

You can see some more pics & details on my blog...

For my daughter and not her cat!

I've finished this quilt I started early this year. It's for my DD and even if she knows she will get a quilt I'm going to put it under the Christmas tree. You know it's that season now!
It was very windy and cold when I tried to get a pic of it in the nice light that was today.
She's a huge fan of the Cat in the Hat, so I guess she will love this lap sized quilt!

Little finishes for a busy month

I have managed a couple of small finishes for this month.

I had another small Christmas heart embroidered, and waiting to be stitched and stuffed.  That was a very  quick finish.

At about this time last year I started making this small coin purse as a Christmas gift.  The frames I had bought didnt suit the size or shape very well, so I remade the purse using a different pattern.  Since then I have been searching for a suitable frame for it.  I found this one at the Brisbane Craft Show last month, and decided to give it a go.  It would have been better in a dark gold colour, but as I havent found one like that, I felt this one was the next most suitable colour and the size and shape were better.

A Schnibble

About three years ago I participated in A Year of Schnibbles.  Although I finished my top for each month, I still have three that are not quilted.  Last week there would have been four, but I got one done.  Yeah!  I think it will be nice for some Christmas decorating.  It surely feels good to get these old projects dusted off and completed.

A Wee Pillow

I almost forgot to post another finish from this past Friday night when I participated in the Friday Night Sew-In!

Front

Back

It's left over blocks from another quilt I am working on for my daughter's bed, so I decided to make a little pillow cover from them.  They both have been sitting around since the beginning of the year (the pillow and the quilt).  My hope is to get the quilt completed for my Daughter for Christmas, but I already let her have the pillow as she found it in my "hiding" spot!

Thanks for taking the time to look at my finish.

Rainbow strings

I am so pleased to get this finish of my list.  I first started the journey of this quilt in May 2011 and tonight the last stitch was stitched on the binding.  Other than the backing and batting, the quilt is made entirely from scraps, you can read more about its journey on my blog HERE

if you click on the top photo you can make out the quilting pattern which is circles, or actually spirals that start where four different coloured blocks meet going round and round until I reached the edges of the quilt.

I still have so many strip scraps left that version two may be out in a couple of years time. Lets see shall we,
Quilted hugs, Sue

Another Halloween finish!

Hi everyone!  I finished another UFO this weekend.  Yeah!!!!

This is the 2nd one I have finished.  a month or so ago I finished the first one for a table runner swap.  Like always, I didn't finish the 2nd one - which was for me!  I used 1 3/8 yard of fabric.  It was started last year.  so not so old in the UFO world.  But done is done!  And that is a good thing!

hugs...

Yay!! A Finish

Years ago my hubby, (well before he was my hubby), encouraged me to go on a Teddy Bear making day.  I went and made a teddy.  I then had plans on making lots, but nearly 20 years down the track I have made now three.

I am not that great on making them but enjoyed finishing this one finally, though I had specks of crimson fluff on me all the time.  This one was started about three years ago and had been in the cut out stage for a while.  It is all hand stitched.  I have fur for one more teddy so one day may make one again.

Say "Hello" to Nelson.

WHAT HAVE I BEEN DOING?

Well... I've not exactly been idle.

I had made some blocks for a quilt last year (called 'On The Shelf')... but then it got put in the UFO box as I really wasn't liking it.

But, as I have been really enjoying making mug rugs and placemats this year, I decided to use those blocks to make mug rugs instead.

And they look lovely.  I've only got one almost finished... but you will get the drift:

ABOVE:  All the mug rugs ready for binding.  I have been sewing the binding on the back first, then flipping it and sewing it on the front too... OMGosh, talk about so much easier and faster than hand sewing the binding on the back.  I know it's kinda 'cheating', but I don't care!

ABOVE:  Some of the many mug rugs and placemats I've been making.
There's some there that I started last year too.... but some are new projects too.

Once I have finished sewing Christmas presents (everyone is getting mug rugs and placemat sets!)... I really want to move onto getting my Dresden Plate quilt finished.
I keep putting it off as it's such a large project.

Right, I'm off to see what you all have been up to!

ONWARD...

Finally a UFO Finish...

My fresh Flowers Quilt is finally complete.  I simply love the orange with white polka dot fabric I found in my own stash for the binding!  This quilt has long been in the UFO/WIP pile.  The fabric is actually half a jelly roll, a few spare charm squares and some red yardage that was left over from making this quilt HERE 3.25 years ago!  I added the Yellow fabric I picked up at a JoAnn Fabrics Black Friday sale about 3 years ago for the back, the green is from my LQS, but I don't know the line or any info on the fabric since I used it all up.  I have been working on this quilt for over a year now.  I have spent half of this year ripping out some very bad Free-motion quilting I tried but it was not successful.  I sewed pebbles on the red fabrics and a squiggle on the colorful bars.

Sneaking in Another Project

I found myself volunteering to pattern-test a purse pattern when I saw a facebook post, so I snuck this project in amongst my WIP's I have been working on.

I really love the padded and layered outer-shell of the purse and the fact that it has a top zipper for me is a plus as it delays little hands from getting within it's confines.

I am rather proud of my inner-zippered pocket to be honest.  It has been a while since I have done zippers so this was a thoroughly enjoyable break from a few UFO projects.  My daughter has already kidnapped the purse several times, so I shall have to make myself another one!  If you are interested in finding more about this pattern, you can go to Clover & Violets Shop posting HERE.

HELLO! LONG TIME...

I'm ashamed to say it's been MONTHS since I've been on this blog.

So sorry.

Life eh?  It just gets busier and busier.

But, rest assured I've not been idle.

I have been working on projects old and new ... but the one thing I really wanted to get done this year?

It's still sitting in it's big box.  My Dresden Plate Quilt.

It's gunna have to wait longer now... probably be my major UFO for next year now.

What else is new?  We have puppies.  5 little fur balls.  All should be going to their forever homes by Christmas.

I am on here right now to say I will be back in the next few days to see what you girls have been up to!

So... bye for now... I will be back.

Forgotten Finishes

I have dropped off the map for quite a few months for health reasons, but I am eagerly working on finishes.  I have some that are quite a few months behind on posting, but I finally have pictures of the items as I was transferring stuff from a dying computer to a working one .

Both of these items are new articles of clothing that I made in May.  The blue dress was a dress I pattern-tested for a designer so I wasn't able to share the finish then.  Miss Z has grown quite a bit so the dress no longer fits her (too short!).  The night gown is one of her favorites because she can twirl in it.  She grabbed Hershey's Kisses off the table as I was trying to take the picture of her in it.   I am working on two more like it so you will see it again soon!  In fact I have a whole pile of UFO clothing items for Miss Z, some I really hope get completed by the end of the year!!

I will have a quilt up in a day or two, I am sooo close.  I am so glad to be back!

October finishes

Sorry its late, but I only have realised that I never showed you what I finished last month.  None of them are "true" UFO's, but they are still finished

First I had a play around with trapunto and made each of my Great neices a cushion for their birthdays.

We have
"K" is for Kai

And then we have
 "G" is for Giaan

I also had a finish for my quilt called Barefoot roses, aptly named after the pretty range of fabrics that I used to make it in.  This was a play along with a face book quilting group that I belong to.  The host posts a quilt design each week, and you make it any way you interpret it.   It was a good chance to use up a set of pretty fat quarters that had been in my stash for some time, so the fat quarters were UFOs technically speaking

I used this quilt as more practice for my FMQuilting,
if you look closely I did an all over vine leaf design.

Wonky Eye Spy quilt # 44

I am a little bit shocked that this is my 44th UFO and there are still more to come!!!

This is the quilt I have made from blocks collected in 2011 and 2012 in a Block Swap.

The 12" blocks were all made by different people and I added the sashing and rainbow blocks to the side to widen the quilt.....

I quilted it with a FMQ swirl all over ...

... can see them easier and get an idea of size of the swirls from this picture on the back...

.. what do you think of this fun backing... an almost new doona (duvet) cover I found in the op shop, which I also used in the binding

Righto, Gotto Go..... there is fun to be had...... and more UFO's to finish!
